Peoples Lawyers Forum Moves NCCIA Over Alleged Defamation in Viral Documentary

Peoples Lawyers Forum Moves NCCIA Over Alleged Defamation in Viral Documentary

The Peoples Lawyers Forum Karachi Division has taken legal action against a YouTube channel, accusing it of spreading false and damaging content against political figures.

According to details, Advocate Tariq Khattak, Vice President of the Lawyers Forum, has submitted a formal petition to the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA). The complaint is directed against the YouTube channel โ€œRaftarโ€ and its management.

The petition states that the Lawyers Forum believes the documentary titled โ€œHow PPP Destroyed Karachiโ€ contains misleading claims. The video reportedly went viral on social media and generated mixed public reactions.

Some viewers praised the documentary for its research-based approach. However, others criticized it for allegedly targeting political leaders without verified evidence.

The petitioner claims that the content published by the channel is defamatory. It further alleges that the material violates provisions under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), 2016, including its amended version of 2025.

According to the complaint, the CEO of the channel, Farhan Malik, along with Hafiz Minhaaj Afzal and other team members, are responsible for producing and circulating the contested material.

The Lawyers Forum has requested authorities to take immediate legal action. The petition also seeks the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against all individuals involved in the production and distribution of the documentary.

Legal representatives argue that such content can harm reputations and mislead the public if not properly verified. They maintain that digital platforms must follow legal and ethical standards when publishing political or sensitive material.

The Lawyers Forum further emphasized that unchecked online content can create misinformation and damage public trust. They urged cybercrime authorities to investigate the matter thoroughly and ensure accountability.

Officials from NCCIA have not yet issued a formal response regarding the petition. However, the case is expected to be reviewed under relevant cybercrime laws.

The controversy surrounding the documentary continues to grow as the Lawyers Forum pushes for strict action. Social media users remain divided, with ongoing debate about freedom of expression versus responsible reporting.

As the legal process begins, the Lawyers Forum has reiterated its demand for swift action, stating that defamation through digital platforms must be addressed under the law to prevent further misuse of online media.
