LESCO Grants Extended Deadlines for April Electricity Bills, Offering Relief to Consumers

Pakistan recently faced heightened tensions with India, which caused disruptions in daily life and led to the closure of businesses, alongside significant losses. Many consumers were unable to meet utility bill payment deadlines due to the ongoing situation.

As the situation stabilizes, Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has announced an extension of payment deadlines for April 2025 electricity bills, providing much-needed relief to affected customers. This decision was made in response to the challenges posed by regional tensions, allowing consumers more time to settle their bills without incurring late fees.

LESCO has extended the due dates for bills issued between April 23 and April 30, 2025. Bills issued from April 23 to April 26 can now be paid by May 15, 2025, while bills from April 28 to April 30 must be paid by May 16, 2025. This extension is aimed at easing the financial burden on customers during this difficult period, and LESCO urged consumers to take advantage of the revised deadlines to avoid penalties.

In a further relief effort, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved a fuel charge adjustment (FCA) for K-Electric customers for February 2025, resulting in a reduction of Rs3.64 per unit on bills issued in May 2025. This reduction will help alleviate the financial strain on households already facing high energy costs.

The FCA adjustment is part of a broader tariff framework established in July 2023, which covers costs such as efficiency losses and open-cycle generation. NEPRA has also allocated Rs3 billion to support operational requirements, with the costs being offset through negative fuel adjustments, ensuring no additional financial burden for consumers in the future.

These combined measures from LESCO and K-Electric provide crucial relief for power consumers, particularly as energy prices continue to rise. The extended bill payment deadlines and the reduction in electricity charges offer a welcome reprieve for households.
