LHC Approves Bail for PTI’s Sanam Javed in Case Involving Anti-State Content

The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday approved the bail request of Sanam Javed, a Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) activist, in a case involving allegations of sharing anti-state content on social media.

Justice Farooq Haider heard the case and granted her bail, ordering her release upon submission of surety bonds worth Rs500,000.

Sanam Javed had been arrested earlier this month by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), accused of spreading content online that was considered harmful to national interests. The FIA Lahore filed the case under various sections of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act and the Pakistan Penal Code.

Her lawyer, Advocate Mian Ali Ashfaq, argued that the accusations lacked merit and were politically driven. He stated that Sanam had not posted or made any comments that could be classified as anti-state, and emphasized the absence of solid evidence.

He requested the court to release his client on bail, stating she was being unfairly targeted due to her political affiliation with PTI.

The FIA opposed the bail plea, insisting that the content shared by Sanam met the criteria for anti-state propaganda and required further investigation.

After reviewing arguments from both sides, the court ruled in favor of granting bail and instructed that Sanam Javed be released upon furnishing the required surety bonds.

Sanam Javed has been a vocal supporter of PTI and has faced several legal issues recently, especially amid the government’s crackdown on party activists following the events of May 9 last year.
