LHC Dismisses PTI Petition for Minar-e-Pakistan Rally

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has rejected Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) petition seeking permission to hold a public rally at Minar-e-Pakistan on March 22. Justice Farooq Haider, who presided over the hearing, upheld the registrar’s objection, directing PTI to first approach the government’s redressal committee before seeking judicial intervention.

The court ruled that PTI could file a petition only if the committee fails to decide on the matter. PTI leader Akmal Khan Bari had initially filed the petition, stating that the party had formally requested permission from authorities but received no response.

During the hearing, PTI’s lawyer argued that involving the redressal committee would be ineffective, but the court maintained its stance that legal procedures must be followed before the case could be considered.

The petition highlighted PTI’s desire to hold a peaceful rally, in accordance with the law, at Minar-e-Pakistan, and expressed frustration over the denial of permission despite following legal protocols.

This dismissal follows a similar denial by Lahore’s district administration on February 8, when PTI sought to hold a rally commemorating the first anniversary of the general elections, which the party has described as rigged.
