The Lahore High Court (LHC) has suspended the by-election schedule for National Assembly constituency NA-175 in Muzaffargarh. This decision follows a petition filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Jamshed Dasti, challenging his disqualification by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
A three-member bench, led by Chief Justice Aalia Neelum, heard the petition and issued notices to the Attorney General for assistance. Dasti’s counsel argued that the ECP lacked the authority to disqualify a candidate without a judicial declaration, citing a Supreme Court ruling on the matter.
The LHC’s suspension halts the electoral process in NA-175, including the previously announced polling date of September 10. The court has also stayed the ECP’s proceedings against Dasti until further notice.
