Rapper Lil Nas X, born Montero Hill, has been released on bail after a weekend in custody. The 26-year-old musician was arrested on Thursday, August 21, on Ventura Boulevard. Police responded to reports of a man found nude on the street and later identified him as the Grammy-winning artist.
According to the Los Angeles District Attorneyโs Office, Lil Nas X allegedly resisted police officers and injured one during the incident.
He now faces four charges, including three counts of battery with injury on a police officer, one count of resisting an executive officer, and a misdemeanor offense.
Court Appearance and Bail
On Monday, August 25, Lil Nas X appeared in court and pleaded not guilty to all charges. He was released the same day after posting $75,000 bail. As part of his bail conditions, the court ordered him to attend four Narcotics Anonymous meetings each week.
Police claimed the rapper may have been under the influence of drugs at the time, though his legal team said test results are still pending.
Attorney Christy OโConnor described the incident as an โabsolute aberration in his life,โ stressing that the case does not reflect the rapperโs character.
Defense Response
Defense attorney Drew Findling emphasized that Lil Nas X has no prior criminal history. He warned against allowing the case to overshadow his career and achievements.
โHeโs never been in trouble for a split second in his existence,โ Findling said. โWeโre not going to let one little event change the trajectory of his amazing life.โ
Findling also highlighted the pressures of international fame, saying that at 26, โitโs not unusual for something like this to happen.โ
Next Steps
Lil Nas X is scheduled to return to court for a preliminary hearing on September 15. If convicted, he could face up to five years in state prison, prosecutors said.
