Shock in Karachi: Over 115 Tola Gold Stolen by Housemaids

KARACHI: In a shocking series of incidents, more than 115 tola of gold jewellery was reportedly stolen from two separate homes in Karachi within days. Police suspect the thefts were committed by two housemaids.

The first theft took place in Mohammad Ali Society, where over 100 tola of gold, valued at more than Rs45 million, was reported missing. The family discovered the robbery after returning from visiting relatives, finding broken wardrobe locks and scattered jewellery boxes. Six gold sets, rings, bangles, earrings, and other ornaments were taken.

Authorities identified the suspects as Nadia and Dilshad, who had been hired just a day earlier, reportedly on the recommendation of the buildingโ€™s security guard. CCTV footage captured the women fleeing the scene, and the recordings have been submitted to the police. A case has been registered at the Mohammad Ali Society police station.

Following media reports, another family in Bahadurabad claimed the same women were involved in a similar theft. In this case, 15 tola of gold, including earrings, rings, and other ornaments, were stolen from a wardrobe drawer near Char Minar Chowrangi on January 5.

Police investigations revealed that the suspects had been working as housemaids in Karachi for 15 to 16 days and may be habitual offenders. The combined value of the stolen gold from both incidents is estimated at over Rs60 million.

Authorities have launched a search operation to arrest the suspects and recover the stolen jewellery. Police have urged residents to exercise caution when hiring domestic staff and to verify references thoroughly.
