A major power outage affected several parts of Karachi late at night after more than 14 K-Electric grid stations went offline. The disruption caused electricity to remain unavailable in several localities. According to reports, the outage followed tripping on K-Electric’s high-tension network. The issue affected multiple grid stations across the city. Several areas experienced a power cut for around 90 minutes before electricity started returning.

The affected areas included Manghopir, Nazimabad, Khawaja Ajmer Nagri and Nusrat Bhutto Colony. Residents in Surjani Town, North Karachi and North Nazimabad also faced the disruption. Other affected localities included Defence, Orangi, Keamari and Sultanabad.

Electricity was also disrupted in PIDC, Hijrat Colony and Mauripur. New Karachi, Lines Area and Lyari were among the other affected areas. Quaidabad and Gulshan-e-Hadeed also experienced interruptions during the breakdown. A K-Electric spokesperson said the disruption was caused by a brief fault in the Extra High Tension (EHT) network. The fault temporarily affected electricity transmission to several parts of the city.

The company said its teams were working to restore the affected areas. Power supply had already returned to some localities while restoration work continued elsewhere. K-Electric also said electricity remained normal in most parts of Karachi during the incident. The company added that technical teams were addressing faults at the affected grid stations.

Work was also underway to resolve the issue on the high-tension network. The restoration process was being carried out to bring electricity supply back to normal. The latest outage highlights the impact that faults in the high-tension system can have on electricity supply. A single network issue can temporarily affect several connected grid stations and surrounding areas.

Residents in the affected localities were advised to remain patient while K-Electric teams completed restoration work. Further updates are expected as the company continues efforts to normalize the power supply.
