Police have arrested a man accused of attacking a woman with acid in Karachi’s Upper Gizri area.
The Man arrested in the case was traced through digital and technical evidence, according to police sources.
The attack reportedly occurred near a water filtration plant in Upper Gizri. The victim suffered burn injuries during the incident.
Police identified the victim as Mumtaz. She later approached Clifton Police Station and registered a First Information Report (FIR).
According to the FIR, Mumtaz was returning home after completing her work. The incident took place at around 1pm.
She was walking through a street near the Munawar Filter Plant. An unidentified man allegedly approached her during the incident.
The suspect allegedly threw acid at Mumtaz before fleeing the area. She sustained injuries to her face, arms, shoulder, and other body parts.
Mumtaz told police that she could identify the attacker. She said she would recognise him if she saw him again.
Following the complaint, police began investigating the case. Officers also started efforts to identify and locate the suspect.
Police sources said investigators used digital and technical evidence to trace the accused. The suspect was subsequently apprehended during the investigation.
The Man arrested in connection with the acid attack has been shifted to the police station. Police said further legal proceedings will follow.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack. Investigators are also expected to collect additional evidence.
The incident has raised concerns over the safety of women in public areas. Acid attacks can cause severe and lasting physical injuries.
Police have not disclosed further details about the accused or the motive behind the attack. The investigation remains ongoing.
The case was formally registered after Mumtaz reported the incident to Clifton Police Station. Further action will depend on the findings of the investigation.
