A Rawalpindi court has sentenced a man to six years of rigorous imprisonment in an iPhone smuggling case involving mobile phones worth Rs 31.4 million.
The verdict was announced by Judge Shabana Rasalat of the Anti-Customs Crimes Special Court. The court also ordered the confiscation of the convictβs assets, including both movable and immovable property.
The accused, identified as Zahoor, was arrested last month at Islamabad International Airport. He was caught attempting to smuggle 60 brand-new iPhones from Dubai into Pakistan. According to customs officials, the phones were carefully concealed in his luggage to evade detection.
During the trial, the prosecution presented evidence showing Zahoorβs involvement in the iPhone smuggling case, including travel records and recovery documents. After reviewing the evidence, the court found him guilty and handed down a six-year sentence.
The court also ruled that the 60 boxed iPhones should be confiscated and handed over to the state. Additionally, Zahoorβs assets were ordered to be seized under anti-smuggling laws.
Following the verdict, the convict was taken into custody and transferred to Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi to serve his sentence. Officials said the judgment serves as a warning to others involved in mobile phone smuggling and illegal trade.
Customs authorities emphasized that they remain committed to curbing smuggling activities across the country. They added that stricter monitoring systems have been implemented at major airports to prevent the illegal import of valuable goods, particularly electronic devices.
This iPhone smuggling case highlights the growing trend of individuals attempting to bring high-value electronic items into Pakistan without paying duties or taxes. Authorities have vowed to take strong legal action against those involved in such crimes to protect the countryβs economic interests.
