NADRA has announced a special registration facility for women seeking their first Computerised National Identity Card.

The new arrangement allows eligible Married Women to use a computerized Nikah Nama during the CNIC application process.

The facility applies to women aged 18 years and above who do not have a birth certificate. According to NADRA, applicants must still meet the authority’s required verification conditions.

For Married Women, a computerized marriage certificate can be submitted as part of the registration process.

Biometric verification will also be required before the CNIC application can be completed. NADRA said the applicant’s husband or parent must complete the required biometric verification.

The measure is designed to help women who face difficulties because of incomplete civil registration records. Some applicants may not have a registered birth certificate despite being eligible for a national identity card.

The new facility gives such women another way to prove their identity and family status.

NADRA has also announced a separate process for unmarried women aged 18 years and above.

This mechanism is also available to applicants who do not possess a birth certificate.

Unmarried applicants must provide the CNIC of a parent, sister, or brother. The relevant family member must also accompany the applicant for biometric verification.

NADRA said these requirements are necessary to confirm family links and identity details.

The special facility for Married Women and unmarried applicants is available for a limited period. According to the official announcement, the arrangement will remain valid until December 31, 2026.

Eligible women have been advised to visit NADRA registration centres with the required documents.

Applicants should ensure that their computerized Nikah Nama or family documents are available before visiting. They should also bring the family member required for biometric verification.

The initiative is expected to make CNIC registration easier for women with missing birth records.

A CNIC is needed for many official and everyday services in Pakistan.

These include banking, mobile connections, voting, property matters, and government services. NADRA has encouraged eligible applicants to complete the process before the special facility expires.

The authority has also advised women to follow the prescribed verification procedure at registration centres.
