Marwat Announces Gohar’s Removal as PTI Chairman

Marwat

Sher Afzal Marwat, a leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), claimed that Barrister Gohar Ali Khan was removed from his position as chairman of the party due to his unsatisfactory performance. Marwat’s remarks followed Gohar’s announcement that Barrister Ali Zafar would be PTI’s nominee for the chairman position in the upcoming internal elections scheduled for March 3.

The PTI’s top post had remained vacant for over a month after the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and the Supreme Court declared the party’s intra-party elections invalid and stripped it of its bat symbol. Consequently, Gohar, who assumed the chairmanship through those elections, was no longer the party head.

Marwat cited incompetence and poor performance as the reasons for Gohar’s removal, stating that while Gohar was a gentleman, his performance did not meet expectations. According to Marwat, Gohar failed to fulfill the expectations of the party workers and did not demonstrate the necessary activity to effectively run the party office.

Marwat criticized the party leadership’s approach following the election results, stating that Gohar should have taken a more proactive role in leading the party after the polls.

Gohar, in his announcement, nominated Barrister Ali Zafar for the position of party chairman and Omar Ayub as secretary-general, urging everyone to support Zafar’s election as the next chairman.

The PTI spokesperson had previously announced the holding of intra-party polls on February 5 but later postponed them. According to the new election schedule, candidates can submit their nomination papers on February 23 and 24, with scrutiny taking place on February 25. The final decisions on nomination papers will be announced on February 27, and polling is scheduled for March 3 at the party’s central office and provincial secretariats.
