Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced scholarships worth over Rs60 million for students from Gilgit-Baltistan.
Around 500 students are expected to benefit from the scholarship initiative. Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat shared details about the program on Monday.
He said the scholarships will be distributed among selected students on the chief minister’s instructions. Students studying at seven educational institutions in Gilgit-Baltistan will benefit from the initiative.
Rs60 Million Scholarships for GB Students
The scholarship package is part of the Punjab government’s efforts to support students with their education. Rana Sikandar Hayat described the scholarships as a gift from the Punjab government to Gilgit-Baltistan students.
More than Rs60 million has been allocated to provide financial assistance to around 500 students. The initiative is linked with the Honhaar Scholarship Program.
According to the education minister, the program includes reserved quotas for students from different provinces and regions. He said the policy aims to provide educational opportunities without discrimination.
Students From Other Provinces Also Included
The scholarship program is not limited to students from Punjab and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Rana Sikandar Hayat said students from Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are also receiving support. The provincial government plans to expand similar assistance to students from Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
The minister said a scholarship initiative for AJK students would be introduced in the coming days. This expansion would allow more students outside Punjab to benefit from the government’s educational support programs.
Maryam Nawaz Focuses on Educational Opportunities
The Punjab government has presented the initiative as part of its wider focus on higher education.
