Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has said that a peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute is essential for protecting the rights of the Kashmiri people and ensuring long-term peace and stability in the region.
In her message on the occasion of Accession to Pakistan Day, Maryam Nawaz emphasized that the Kashmir issue should be resolved in accordance with the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions. She said a fair and peaceful solution remains important for regional harmony and justice.
The chief minister recalled the resolution adopted by the people of Jammu and Kashmir on July 19, 1947, in favour of accession to Pakistan. She said the historic decision reflected the long-standing aspirations of the Kashmiri people and demonstrated their close relationship with Pakistan.
According to Maryam Nawaz, the day holds historical importance and reminds people of the continued connection between Pakistan and Kashmir. She said the people of Kashmir have maintained their commitment to their aspirations despite facing challenges over the years.
She also stated that Pakistan would continue to extend diplomatic, political, and moral support to the Kashmiri people. She added that the government remains committed to highlighting the Kashmir issue at international forums.
The chief minister said Pakistan would continue raising the matter of the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination before the global community. She stressed that the issue should be addressed through peaceful dialogue and in line with international commitments.
Maryam Nawaz also paid tribute to the people of Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir for what she described as their resilience and sacrifices over the decades. She acknowledged their determination while expressing hope for a peaceful future.
She said the people of Jammu and Kashmir have waited for many years to exercise what Pakistan describes as their right to self-determination. She expressed hope that they would one day be able to decide their future peacefully.
The chief minister noted that lasting peace in South Asia depends on resolving long-standing disputes through dialogue and mutual understanding. She said peaceful solutions are important for promoting stability and regional development.
Her message also highlighted the importance of respecting international principles and supporting efforts aimed at resolving conflicts through diplomatic means. She said peaceful engagement remains the best path toward achieving sustainable peace.
