Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has invited Chinese technology companies to invest in Punjab. She made the remarks during her visit to China.

Maryam Nawaz addressed the Big Data Industry Expo 2026 during the visit. She highlighted Punjabโ€™s plans to expand its digital infrastructure and data systems.

The chief minister announced the development of Punjabโ€™s first dedicated data centre. The facility is being developed under the name โ€œPunjab Data Lake.โ€

She also discussed the state-level common data engine called OneMap. The system is designed to bring data from different government departments into one platform.

According to Maryam Nawaz, OneMap is integrating more than 12 terabytes of geospatial data. The information has been collected from 31 government departments.

The system also includes more than 6,000 datasets. The government aims to use this information for better planning and public services.

Maryam Nawaz said OneMap could support several areas of governance. These include urban planning, land management and the resolution of land-related disputes.

She said the Punjab government is also connecting OneMap with the Punjab Socio-Economic Registry. The integration is expected to improve how government services are delivered.

The system could help officials better understand the needs of citizens. It could also help the government direct resources toward people who need them most.

Maryam Nawaz said the Punjab Data Lake would further strengthen the provinceโ€™s digital capabilities. She described the planned data centre as an important part of Punjabโ€™s digital development.

During her address, she also spoke about Pakistan-China relations. She said the relationship goes beyond ties between governments.

According to the chief minister, the friendship is based on trust and mutual respect. She also highlighted the shared interests of the people of both countries.

Maryam Nawaz said cooperation between Pakistan and China could support future development. She expressed confidence that joint efforts could produce greater achievements.

She also discussed the broader importance of big data. She said data should not only be stored but also made reliable and verifiable.

The chief minister said data should become easier to exchange and use. She added that it could create both economic and public value.

Her remarks came as Punjab seeks greater investment in its technology sector. The invitation to Chinese companies focused on technology, investment and digital infrastructure.
