Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has withdrawn her earlier order to change the uniform of traffic wardens, choosing instead to retain the existing attire across the province.
According to official sources, the Chief Minister had approved a uniform redesign about four months ago. Following this directive, the Punjab Traffic Police developed a new prototype uniform and submitted it for review.
However, after a detailed comparison between the existing and proposed versions, Maryam Nawaz decided that the current uniform would continue to be used by traffic wardens in all districts of Punjab.
Officials said the decision was made after consulting senior police officers and considering public feedback. Many officers reportedly supported keeping the present design, describing it as practical, recognizable, and suitable for local weather conditions.
The Punjab government had initially aimed to modernize the traffic warden uniform to align it with international standards. The prototype included minor design updates and material changes meant to improve comfort and visibility. However, the new design did not receive final approval.
Sources within the department confirmed that the Chief Minister’s office instructed authorities to stop further work on the redesign project. Instead, efforts will focus on improving traffic management, staff training, and overall service quality.
Maryam Nawaz’s decision highlights her emphasis on practicality and cost efficiency in administrative reforms. By maintaining the current uniform, the provincial government aims to avoid unnecessary spending while ensuring consistency in the traffic police’s public image.
The move has been welcomed by many wardens, who said the existing uniform is both comfortable and easy to maintain.
