Authorities have postponed the Matric Exams scheduled under the Annual Second Annual Examinations 2026 in several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The decision comes amid an emergency announced in the province. Students will have to wait for a revised examination schedule from the relevant education board.
According to a notification issued by the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Bannu, the examinations were scheduled to begin on October 12. However, the board announced their postponement and said new dates would be communicated later.
The decision affects students in Bannu, Lakki Marwat, North Waziristan and adjoining areas. Candidates appearing in the examinations have been advised to await further instructions regarding the revised timetable. The board has not yet announced when the postponed papers will take place.
The postponement follows emergency measures introduced by the federal government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. On October 11, the government authorised the deployment of Pakistan Army troops under Article 245 of the Constitution. The troops are expected to assist the civil administration with maintaining law and order, protecting citizens and securing government installations.
President Asif Ali Zardari approved the emergency measures and governor’s rule following the federal cabinet’s decision. The cabinet was chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The government cited deteriorating security conditions and concerns over cooperation with the provincial administration in counterterrorism efforts.
The decision also followed unsuccessful negotiations between the federal government and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). Discussions reportedly covered counterterrorism policy and several political demands.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi had called for joint consultations regarding security operations. He also demanded legal and medical facilities for Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi, alongside relief for other political prisoners.
According to the supplied report, the federal government had linked its offer of talks to the cancellation of PTI’s Islamabad march. The march proceeded on October 4, adding to tensions between the two sides.
Following the breakdown in negotiations, several meetings were held between the president and the prime minister. The federal cabinet subsequently approved emergency measures, paving the way for governor’s rule and military assistance to civilian authorities.
