MG Pakistan is moving ahead with plans to export locally assembled vehicles to Bangladesh.
The development could mark an important step for Pakistan’s automotive industry in expanding into regional markets.
MG Pakistan plans to send two completely knocked-down vehicle samples to Bangladesh in September 2026.
The samples will undergo the required local homologation process before commercial exports can begin.
If approvals proceed as planned, mass exports of Cars to Bangladesh are expected to start in 2027.
MG Pakistan Signs MoU for Bangladesh Exports
The export plan follows a Memorandum of Understanding signed in July 2026. MG Pakistan signed the agreement with its counterparts in Bangladesh to move the project forward.
The company said the initiative aligns with the Pakistani government’s efforts to promote automobile exports.
SAIC Motor is also providing support for the project, according to MG Pakistan. The planned exports could help Pakistan increase its presence in the regional automotive market.
They could also provide new opportunities for locally assembled vehicles beyond the domestic market.
Two CKD Vehicle Samples Planned for September
The first stage will involve sending two CKD vehicle samples to Bangladesh in September.
CKD vehicles are shipped as separate components and assembled in the destination market.
The vehicles will first need to complete Bangladesh’s local homologation requirements.
Homologation ensures that vehicles meet the necessary technical, regulatory and safety standards of a particular market.
Once the approval process is completed, MG Pakistan plans to begin larger-scale exports during 2027.
The company has not yet disclosed how many Cars it expects to export during the initial commercial phase.
Pakistan Eyes Growth in Automotive Exports
Pakistan’s automotive sector has traditionally focused heavily on meeting domestic demand.
However, local manufacturers and assemblers are increasingly exploring opportunities in international markets.
MG Pakistan believes its Bangladesh initiative could strengthen the country’s automotive export potential.
The project could also support efforts to establish Pakistan as a regional automobile manufacturing and export hub.
Successful exports to Bangladesh may encourage other Pakistani assemblers to explore nearby markets.
This could create additional opportunities for local manufacturing and automotive supply chains. Exporting locally assembled Cars could also help Pakistan diversify its manufactured exports over time.
The Bangladesh project will now depend on regulatory approvals and successful completion of the homologation process.
If those requirements are completed, MG Pakistan expects mass exports to begin in 2027.
