Mild earthquake tremors were felt in several parts of Karachi on Thursday evening, causing brief panic among residents. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the earthquake measured a low intensity on the Richter scale and originated from the Sindh-Balochistan fault line.
Residents in areas like Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Clifton, and Saddar reported feeling light shaking for a few seconds. Many people rushed out of homes and buildings, though no damage or casualties were reported.
Officials from the PMD said the tremors were part of minor seismic activity frequently recorded in the southern region of Pakistan. The department confirmed that the epicenter was located near Karachi’s outskirts at a shallow depth, which made the tremors noticeable but not dangerous.
Emergency services remained on alert as authorities assessed the situation. The Sindh Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) urged citizens to stay calm and follow safety procedures during such incidents.
Experts reminded that Karachi lies near several minor fault lines, making it vulnerable to occasional low-intensity earthquakes. They advised residents to ensure preparedness for any potential seismic activity in the future.
