Mirpur Police to Launch Phased Safe City Project

The district police of Mirpur, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, are preparing to roll out a phased Safe City project to enhance public safety. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Khurram Iqbal announced the initiative during a press briefing at the Kashmir Press Club on Monday.

According to SSP Iqbal, the Mirpur Police to Launch Phased Safe City Project will include the installation of modern surveillance systems across the district. CCTV cameras will be strategically placed at key points to monitor activity and deter criminal behavior. At present, 30 cameras are in place in the city, but only six are operational. Repair work is underway to restore the remaining units.

The SSP also outlined plans to establish a dedicated women’s police station, set up community policing units, and form liaison committees to improve trust and cooperation between the police and residents. These measures are aimed at building stronger relationships with the public while ensuring a safer environment.

Addressing crime prevention, SSP Iqbal warned that drug dealers, cybercriminals, and individuals using fake identities to harm others will face strict legal action. He also emphasized that any police officers found aiding or protecting criminals will face severe consequences.

In addition to crime control, the police are working on strategies to address traffic congestion in Mirpur. SSP Iqbal urged citizens to remain alert and promptly report any suspicious activities, assuring that his office is always open to the public.

He expressed hope that the media would continue to play a constructive role in strengthening public safety and supporting law enforcement initiatives. The Mirpur Police to Launch Phased Safe City Project marks a significant step toward modernizing security infrastructure in the district and ensuring a more secure future for its residents.
