The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast the onset of the monsoon season starting Wednesday, warning of heavy rainfall and associated risks across the country. The strong weather system, driven by a westerly wave and moist currents from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal, is expected to affect most provinces between June 24 and July 2.
According to the PMD, heavy rain with wind and thunderstorms may lead to flash floods, urban flooding, and landslides, particularly in hilly regions and low-lying urban areas. Northern Punjab, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B), and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) are expected to see the most intense activity, while rainfall is also forecast for Balochistan and Sindh from June 25 onward.

The department urged farmers to plan agricultural activities accordingly and advised tourists and travelers to take caution during the period. Authorities have been instructed to remain alert and implement safety measures to protect lives and property.
