Lahore–Islamabad Motorway Update As Security Tightens in The Capital

Lahore–Islamabad Motorway Update As Security Tightens in The Capital

Authorities in Pakistan have issued a major Motorway Update as security measures intensify in Islamabad. The steps come ahead of expected high-level diplomatic activity in the capital.

Officials confirmed that several key motorways have been partially closed. These routes connect major cities like Lahore, Peshawar, and Faisalabad to Islamabad. The latest Motorway Update highlights strict restrictions on public transport.

The Lahore–Islamabad M2 motorway has been closed for buses and public vehicles. However, private cars are still allowed to travel on this route. Similar restrictions have been applied to the M1 and M3 motorways.

According to officials, the decision follows federal directives. The move aims to ensure security during sensitive diplomatic developments. The Motorway Update also reflects coordinated efforts by road and transport authorities.

Islamabad has effectively turned into a high-security zone. The Expressway from Koral to Zero Point has been fully sealed. Srinagar Highway may also face temporary closures based on security needs.

Key areas, including the Red Zone, are completely restricted. This has caused major disruption to daily travel in the city. The Motorway Update indicates that strict traffic control will remain in place until further notice.

Several diversions have been introduced to manage traffic flow. Residents of sectors G-5, G-6, G-7, F-6, and F-7 heading to Rawalpindi must use alternate routes. Margalla Road and Ninth Avenue are recommended options.

Traffic between Faisal Avenue and Zero Point is being redirected towards Ninth Avenue. Vehicles from Koral Chowk and Club Road are also being diverted through Taramri Chowk.

Travelers from Bhara Kahu are advised to use Korang Road, Bani Gala, and Lehtrar Road. These changes are part of the broader Motorway Update to reduce congestion.

Heavy intercity traffic has also been affected. Vehicles traveling between Lahore and Peshawar via GT Road are being rerouted. They must use motorway-linked routes such as Chakri Interchange and Chak Beli Road.

Authorities have urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel. They warned that delays and disruptions may continue due to ongoing security operations.

The Motorway Update shows that travel conditions remain challenging. Officials continue to monitor the situation and may adjust restrictions as needed.
