Murree Hikes Toilet and Parking Fees Amid Financial Crunch

Amid an ongoing financial crisis, the Murree Municipal Corporation has significantly increased service charges across the popular hill station, with public toilet usage fees jumping from Rs20 to Rs50 per person.

In addition to the restroom fee hike, parking and slaughterhouse service charges have also been raised. These contracts are set to be auctioned to private contractors on June 12.

Despite the steep increase in charges, visitors may still not have access to essential amenities such as running water, soap, or towels in public washrooms. Officials have acknowledged that service quality is not guaranteed.

Seven major public toilets are situated at key locations including Pindi Point, Kashmir Point, and the General Bus Stand. These high-traffic areas account for a combined minimum bid of Rs0.92, while four others in less busy zones like Lower Topa and Jhika Gali are valued at Rs0.25.

The Murree slaughterhouse has also seen a fee revision, with Rs100 now charged for small animals and Rs200 for large ones under a new contract valued at Rs0.29.
