Pakistan Goes Fully Digital NADRA Rolls Out New Birth And Death Registration System

The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), in collaboration with provincial governments, has launched a NADRA digital registration system to record births and deaths in hospitals and health centres across Pakistan. The initiative aims to make the process faster, more transparent, and more efficient.

According to an official statement, the move follows the directives of Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, who instructed NADRA to modernize the country’s registration system and eliminate inefficiencies. The new project is part of the National Biometric and Registration Policy Framework, which was approved by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on January 1, 2025.

Currently, the NADRA digital registration system is in its pilot phase and has been installed in more than 50 hospitals and healthcare facilities nationwide. These include Islamabad’s PIMS, CDA, and Federal Government hospitals; Lahore’s Lady Aitchison Hospital; Bolan Medical College and Sheikh Zayed Hospital in Quetta; and several hospitals in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

Under the new system, hospitals will automatically notify NADRA of any birth or death. Once notified, NADRA will send an SMS or mobile app message to the parents or relatives, directing them to complete registration at their local union council.

During the pilot phase, over 4,000 births and 407 deaths have been recorded through the automated system. Citizens can complete registrations either through NADRA’s mobile app or by visiting the nearest union council office.

The system is already operational in three districts of Punjab and will soon be expanded across the province. NADRA is also working with provincial governments to introduce the service in other regions.

Officials said the NADRA digital registration system will be rolled out nationwide after successful testing, ensuring that every birth and death is promptly and accurately documented. This marks a major step toward a modern, technology-driven registration framework across Pakistan.
