Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has firmly dismissed rumours of the army chief replacing President Zardari. He called the reports baseless and urged the public not to believe social media speculation.

Speaking to reporters in Rohri on Saturday, Naqvi stressed that it is a time for unity. “These are sacred days. Let’s pause politics for just two days,” he said, referring to the 9th and 10th of Muharram.

The minister highlighted that over one million mourners attended the Rohri procession, calling it the largest in Pakistan. He praised the peaceful atmosphere and credited security forces for their efforts.

When asked about the alleged plan to remove Zardari and install the army chief as president, Naqvi rejected the claim outright. “Ignore such rumours. There is no truth to them,” he stated. He also added, “This is the first time in Pakistan’s history that the politicians, the government, and the military are united.”

Naqvi said that some elements are trying to create unrest by spreading false stories. He insisted that the nation must stand together, especially during Muharram, and not let misinformation divide people.

He also shared updates on national security. According to Naqvi, Pakistan has made major progress in fighting terrorism, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He warned that robbers operating in riverine areas will soon face the same fate as terrorists defeated in KP.

On Muharram security, Naqvi noted that:

  • Over 27,000 processions were held across Pakistan.
  • 7,598 majalis were scheduled on Saturday alone.
  • Roads were kept open to ensure smooth movement for the public.

In closing, Naqvi once again dismissed the army chief replacing the Zardari narrative. He urged citizens to remain calm, united, and respectful during this sensitive time.
