Nationwide Weather Alert Issued as Storms Approach Pakistan

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a nationwide weather advisory, warning of strong winds, thunderstorms, rain, and hailstorms from May 7. The forecast comes as a new western weather system is set to impact the upper and central regions of the country, with humid winds reaching the south and central areas.

From May 7 to 12, northern regions including Azad Jammu and Kashmir, particularly Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, and Bagh, are expected to experience intermittent heavy rain and hailstorms. Similarly, Gilgit Baltistan will see moderate to heavy rainfall from May 8 to 12, especially in areas like Diamer, Skardu, and Hunza.

Meanwhile, Punjab and Islamabad are forecast to encounter dust storms, thunderstorms, and hail from May 7 to 11. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including districts such as Chitral, Peshawar, and Abbottabad, will likely experience unstable weather, with the potential for heavy downpours from May 7 to 12. Balochistan will witness rainfall from May 7 to 10 in regions like Quetta and Khuzdar.

Sindh’s districts, including Sukkur and Larkana, could face thunderstorms and strong winds between May 8 and 10. The PMD has issued warnings about potential damage to infrastructure, electric poles, trees, and vehicles due to gusty winds and lightning. The department has also advised farmers to be cautious during wheat harvesting.
