Nawaz Sharif Calls For Public Relief Amid Fuel Price Hike

Senior political leader Nawaz Sharif has called for immediate relief measures for citizens following the recent increase in petrol and diesel prices. The statement came during a high-level meeting held at Jati Umra in Raiwind.

The meeting included Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. The discussion focused on Pakistanโ€™s current political and economic situation.

During the session, Nawaz Sharif emphasized the need to reduce the financial burden on the public. He expressed concern over rising fuel prices and their impact on daily life. He urged authorities to take practical steps to ease inflation pressures.

According to sources, Ishaq Dar briefed Nawaz Sharif on the reasons behind the recent increase in petroleum prices. The briefing covered global oil market trends and regional developments affecting fuel costs.

The former prime minister also directed that special attention should be given to low-income groups. He stressed that government policies must focus on protecting vulnerable segments of society.

Nawaz Sharif further highlighted the importance of coordination between the federal government and Punjab administration. He suggested a unified approach to address public concerns and economic challenges more effectively.

The meeting also included discussions on upcoming political developments. Preparations for elections in Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan were reviewed during the session.

In addition, participants were briefed on diplomatic activities related to US-Iran talks. Officials shared updates on behind-the-scenes efforts aimed at regional stability.

The fuel price situation was also reviewed in detail. A day earlier, the government increased petrol prices by Rs14.92 per litre, bringing it to Rs414.78. High-speed diesel was raised by Rs15 per litre, reaching Rs414.58.

The latest revision marks another rise in fuel costs, adding pressure on households and businesses. According to officials, this is the fourth adjustment in petroleum prices since changes in global oil markets began affecting the region.

Nawaz Sharif reiterated that protecting citizens from economic hardship should remain a top priority. He stressed that timely relief measures are necessary to reduce public frustration and maintain stability.
