Punjab Approves Seven Major Hospitals for Nawaz Sharif Medical City

LAHORE โ€“ Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved the construction of seven major hospitals in the Nawaz Sharif Medical City, a key healthcare project aimed at expanding medical facilities across the province.

The approved hospitals will add 1,519 beds and introduce several specialized healthcare centers. The decision was made during a special meeting focused on public-private partnership projects in Punjab.

During the meeting, officials reviewed 110 development schemes proposed under different sectors. The chief minister also approved the establishment of Childrenโ€™s Hospital-IV and the Institute of Surgical Orthopedics as part of the healthcare expansion plan.

According to officials, the Nawaz Sharif Medical City will include several advanced medical facilities. These include a Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Center, an Institute of Genetic and Blood Diseases, and a Center of Excellence for Nursing and Midwifery.

The project will also feature an Infectious Diseases Hospital and an Institute of Ophthalmology. Authorities said the hospitals will be developed in multiple phases to ensure long-term growth of healthcare services.

The initiative is expected to improve access to specialized treatment facilities for people across Punjab. The government aims to strengthen the provinceโ€™s healthcare system through modern hospitals and improved medical infrastructure.

The meeting also covered other public-private partnership projects. Officials discussed plans for student hostels, road networks, trucking terminals, bus stands, model bazaars, and food street developments.

Officials informed the meeting that four public-private partnership projects have already started operations. They added that feasibility studies for 27 more projects have been completed.

Additional projects were also reviewed during the session. These included an FMD production plant in the Medical District, a Time Travel Park in Lahore, shrimp farming initiatives, and a Mines-to-Metals project in Chiniot.

Speaking at the meeting, Maryam Nawaz said the Punjab government would continue its development strategy. She highlighted the importance of working with the private sector to speed up economic progress and improve public services.
