Heavy Rainfall to Hit Pakistan from Saturday, Flood Warnings Issued Nationwide

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a weather alert forecasting heavy rainfall in many regions of Pakistan from August 23 to 30. The National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) warned of possible flooding and landslides during this period.

According to the forecast, three rain systems are expected to enter the country. These are likely to bring widespread downpours, with risks of flash floods in vulnerable areas.

From August 23 to 25, strong winds and torrential rains are expected in Islamabad, Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Punjab. Urban flooding may hit low-lying areas, while landslides could disrupt hilly regions.

In Punjab, Rawalpindi, Sialkot, Gujrat, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, and surrounding districts may face heavy rainfall. Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, and Gujranwala are also at risk of urban flooding.

In southern Punjab, hill torrents may overflow in Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, and Dera Ismail Khan. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will likely see intense downpours from August 23 to 27, especially in Chitral, Swat, Mansehra, and Abbottabad. Flash floods in streams and landslides in mountainous areas are possible.

In Azad Kashmir, Muzaffarabad, Bagh, and Kotli could face floods and landslides. Gilgit-Baltistan districts such as Skardu, Hunza, and Ghizer may also receive continuous rains. Road links in these areas could be cut off due to landslides.

From August 27 to 30, Karachi, Thatta, Sujawal, and Badin are likely to receive heavy downpours. Interior Sindh, including Hyderabad, Sukkur, and Larkana, may also see widespread rainfall. In Balochistan, Lasbela, Gwadar, Khuzdar, and Turbat are expected to be affected.

Rivers may swell as reservoirs near full capacity. The Indus, Ravi, and Chenab rivers are at risk of flooding, especially near Taunsa, Guddu, and Kalabagh.

Authorities confirmed that relief operations are being monitored, and all departments remain on high alert. NDMA urged citizens to stay cautious and avoid unnecessary travel, especially to northern areas where landslides and heavy rainfall are expected.
