The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has decided to postpone the hearing on K-Electric’s April Fuel Cost Adjustment (FCA) request after objections were raised by the Power Division.
K-Electric had sought a reduction of Rs 4.79 per unit in the FCA, which would have provided a financial relief of Rs 7 billion to electricity consumers in Karachi.

The hearing, led by NEPRA Chairman Waseem Mukhtar, was halted shortly after it began when the Power Division intervened, stating that a related review petition concerning K-Electric is still under consideration. They requested NEPRA to delay the current hearing until that matter is resolved.
Officials from the Power Division cautioned that approving the requested relief could upset the uniform national tariff policy. They also highlighted that the government has already disbursed Rs 21 billion in fuel subsidies, and additional adjustments could potentially impact Pakistan’s commitments to the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
In response, Chairman Waseem Mukhtar questioned the timing and relevance of the Power Division’s concerns, noting that FCA hearings are meant to be open and transparent, and such objections should have been raised earlier.
After the exchange, NEPRA opted to reschedule the hearing for the following week.
