Nestlé Pakistan Wins Climate Champion Award at 4th OICCI Climate Conference

Nestlé Pakistan has received the Climate Champion Award at the 4th Pakistan Climate Conference. The recognition was given by the Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OICCI). The company won the top award for the second year in a row.

The conference was hosted by OICCI, which represents more than 200 multinational companies. These companies come from 30 countries and operate across 14 sectors. The event also included the second edition of the Climate Excellence Awards. This year, more than 80 entries were submitted across different categories.

Nestlé Pakistan was recognised for its work in climate action, regenerative agriculture, and circular economy projects. The company has focused on creating shared value for people, the planet, and business.

Federal Minister for Climate Change Dr. Musadik Masood Malik addressed the conference. He stressed the need for greater investment in climate solutions. He also highlighted the role of young innovators in building a climate-resilient Pakistan.

Nestlé Pakistan CEO Jason Avanceña said the conference helps create practical solutions for climate challenges. He announced that Nestlé will invest an additional 60 million US dollars in Pakistan. The investment will support sustainability projects, agricultural services, automation, and digitalisation.

He noted that the company had already invested 40 million US dollars between 2023 and 2025. With the new commitment, total planned investment will reach 100 million US dollars over six years. This reflects Nestlé Pakistan’s long-term commitment to the country.

Sheikh Waqar Ahmad, Head of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability at Nestlé Pakistan, said the company aims to be a force for good. He added that sustainability remains central to its business strategy.

Federal Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb also spoke at the event. He said climate action is urgent and requires strong private sector support. He also mentioned Pakistan’s access to 1.3 billion dollars in climate financing from global institutions.

Under its global targets, Nestlé Pakistan aims to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 50 percent by 2030. The company is working toward net zero emissions by 2050. In Pakistan, it has already reduced emissions by more than 50 percent compared to 2018 levels.

The company has invested in a 9.6-megawatt solar power system and a biomass boiler at its Kabirwala facility. It has also reduced virgin plastic use by 33 percent and introduced recyclable packaging.

Through its Clean Gilgit-Baltistan project, Nestlé Pakistan supports the collection and recycling of 11,000 tons of packaging waste. These efforts align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals on climate action and environmental protection.
