Scammers Use PIA Logo in New Cyber Fraud, Passengers Trick‑ed By Fake Flight Discount Offers

A new cyber scam is targeting Pakistani travelers amid ongoing Middle East tensions. Passengers are being lured with fake airline offers.

A recent victim received a WhatsApp message claiming she had been selected for a special discount on international flights. The message came from a number displaying the PIA logo.

When she downloaded and opened the file, her mobile phone was immediately seized by hackers. Within minutes, over Rs7,000 was stolen from her Easypaisa account. Experts say this is a new cyber scam exploiting travelers’ urgency and trust.

The ongoing geopolitical situation has disrupted flight schedules, creating opportunities for scammers. Cybercriminals often impersonate airlines, particularly PIA, sending fake messages to steal money and personal information.

PIA clarified that it does not send offers through calls or messages, nor does it request sensitive data. Passengers are urged to use only official PIA websites and authorized channels for flight discounts.

Authorities warn that cybercriminals constantly update their methods to trap more victims. Scammers typically claim travelers are eligible for special discounts and instruct them to download apps or share personal information.

This new cyber scam highlights the importance of vigilance. Travelers are advised never to download unknown files, click suspicious links, or provide personal information to unverified sources.

Security experts recommend checking airline offers directly on official platforms and reporting suspicious messages immediately. Being cautious can prevent financial loss and protect personal data.

Passengers should also ensure devices have updated security software and two-factor authentication enabled for online payments. Awareness and caution remain key defenses against growing cyber threats targeting airline customers.
