Punjab Announces New School Timings for Ramadan 2026

Punjab Announces New School Timings for Ramadan 2026

With Ramadan approaching, the Punjab government has announced revised School Timings for 2026. The changes aim to support students, teachers, and staff observing fasts during the holy month. The decision comes ahead of Ramadan, which is expected to begin on February 18 or 19, depending on moon sighting in Pakistan.

According to the Punjab School Education Department, the revised School Timings are designed to reduce physical strain. Officials stated that shorter hours will help maintain focus and comfort during fasting. The new schedule will apply to all public schools across Punjab during Ramadan.

Under the revised plan, regular schools will operate from Monday to Thursday between 8:30 AM and 1:00 PM. On Fridays, classes will start at 8:30 AM and end at 12:30 PM. These timings are shorter than usual and reflect past Ramadan schedules.

Double-shift schools will follow a separate structure. The first shift from Monday to Thursday will run from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM. The second shift on these days will operate between 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM. On Fridays, the second shift will begin at 2:30 PM and end at 5:00 PM.

At present, schools across Punjab are operating from 8:45 AM to 1:30 PM. This existing schedule will remain in effect until April 15. No immediate changes have been announced outside the Ramadan period.

Meanwhile, many parents have expressed concern over current school hours. They believe late start times are unnecessary, especially after the end of the smog season. Several parents have urged authorities to introduce earlier schedules for student convenience.

Parents argue that earlier timings allow children to return home sooner. This is especially important during Ramadan, when energy levels remain low. Teachers have also shared similar concerns regarding workload and fatigue.

So far, the School Education Department has not introduced any additional strategy. Families and school staff are waiting for official notifications regarding implementation dates. Many hope that clarity will be provided well before Ramadan begins.
