Newborn Sold in Punjab After Birth in Karachi Clinic, Police Recover Baby

Karachi police have filed a human trafficking case against two female employees of a private clinic in Malir after a newborn was allegedly taken from his family and sold in Punjab. The family had reportedly been unable to afford medical expenses at the time of delivery.

According to officials, the newborn has been safely recovered and reunited with his parents. The private clinic involved in the case has been sealed, and authorities are continuing their investigation.

The case was registered at the Memon Goth police station on November 1. The complaint was filed by the baby’s father, Sarang Khan, a labourer from a village in Nooriabad. Police confirmed that the newborn was traced to Lahore, where raids were conducted to apprehend those responsible.

Details of the Case

According to the First Information Report (FIR), Sarang’s wife, Maheen, had gone to stay with her parents following a domestic dispute. On October 5, Maheen’s mother, Shahnaz, took her to a private clinic in Murad Memon Goth for delivery.

The attending doctor allegedly advised a surgical procedure and demanded payment. When Shahnaz explained that the family could not afford the cost, the doctor reportedly introduced another woman who offered to cover the expenses in exchange for adopting the baby.

The family, struggling financially, agreed. After the operation, the baby boy was handed over to the woman, later identified as another employee of the same clinic.

Police Action

Authorities said the matter came to light after relatives informed Sarang that his wife had given birth but the child had been given away. Police launched an investigation, leading to the recovery of the baby in Lahore.
