Rescue officials confirmed that the body of the 10-month-old child was recovered by the Rescue diving team from the Saggian area. The site is about 8 kilometers from where the accident occurred.
The baby, named Rida, had fallen into a manhole along with her mother near Bhatti Gate a day earlier. Earlier, rescuers had recovered the body of the mother, Sadia, from a sewer line on Outfall Road.
DIG Operations Faisal Kamran said the bodies were swept away due to strong water currents in the sewer system. He added that all relevant departments are working together to handle the situation.
Authorities have formed a high-level committee to investigate the incident. DIG Kamran stated that a formal notification for the committee has already been issued. The inquiry will focus on the circumstances that led to the accident and determine responsibility.
Following the tragic event, Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz directed the immediate suspension of officers linked to the incident. Secretary Housing confirmed that Project Director Zahid Abbas and Director Tipu Shabbir Hussain have been suspended on charges of negligence and incompetence.
