Omar Ayub Slams Budget, Warns of Economic Meltdown

Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, Omar Ayub, launched a fierce attack on the federal budget and government policies on Wednesday, accusing the ruling coalition of driving Pakistan towards an economic disaster. Speaking to the media outside the Islamabad High Court, Ayub highlighted soaring fuel levies and mounting debt as signs of poor fiscal management.

He claimed the petroleum levy had surpassed Rs100 per litre, a massive jump from Rs20 during the PTI government’s tenure. Ayub also criticized the rising interest payments, stating that more than half of the national budget is now dedicated to debt servicing, while public sector salaries remain unchanged.

“This budget is a disaster,” he said. “There’s no relief for the common man, yet spending on the Prime Minister’s and President’s residences continues to rise.”

Ayub also raised serious concerns over judicial proceedings involving PTI founder Imran Khan. Referring to repeated court delays and what he described as a “dismantling” of benches, he alleged that the legal process was being deliberately disrupted to deny justice.

He further claimed that Imran Khan is being denied the right to meet fellow jailed party leaders, calling it a breach of fundamental rights. “We remain committed to standing with all our imprisoned comrades,” Ayub concluded.
