Punjab Approves ‘One Map Punjab’ Project Worth Rs1.46 Billion

Punjab Approves ‘One Map Punjab’ Project Worth Rs1.46 Billion

The Punjab government has decided to launch the One Map Punjab project to bring all geographical and mapping information onto a single digital platform. The initiative aims to improve planning, coordination, and management of development projects across the province.

According to official details, the One Map Punjab project has an estimated cost of Rs1.466 billion. The system will create a centralized database containing geographical, land, infrastructure, and development-related information.

Officials say the project will help government departments access accurate and updated data through one platform. This will make planning and decision-making more efficient.

The One Map Punjab initiative will first be introduced in Lahore. After its initial implementation, it will be expanded to other districts across Punjab.

The Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) will be responsible for implementing the project. Meanwhile, the Planning and Development Department will serve as the sponsoring agency.

Authorities believe the project will reduce duplication of government assets and development schemes. It will also improve coordination among departments working on public projects.

A key feature of the system will be the identification of utility conflicts and development challenges. Officials say the platform will automatically detect issues that may delay projects.

The project will also include an Analysis and Decision Support System. This tool will assist policymakers in making informed decisions about development priorities and resource allocation.

According to sources, a team of 36 experts is proposed for the project. Around Rs533.7 million has been allocated for staffing and manpower expenses.

In addition, authorities have proposed Rs324 million for hosting and technical infrastructure costs. These resources will support the digital platform and ensure smooth operations.

The pre-PDWP forum reviewed the proposal and suggested several changes. It directed officials to remove unnecessary expenses, including honorariums and mobile phone costs.

The forum also instructed departments to reduce the number of laptops requested and ensure that procurement is based on actual needs.

Data protection remains a major focus of the project. Officials have been directed to implement strict security measures to safeguard sensitive geographical information.

Authorities have also been asked to prepare a sustainability plan for One Map Punjab. A revenue generation strategy will also be developed to support long-term operations.

The One Map Punjab project is expected to modernize digital mapping in the province. Officials believe it will improve governance, strengthen planning, and support future development efforts across Punjab.
