LAHORE โ The Punjab Masstransit Authority announced that fares for the Orange Train, Speedo buses, and other services will remain unchanged. This decision comes despite a recent sharp increase in fuel prices.
Authorities said the move aims to provide relief to city commuters, as the Orange Train is a major source of transportation in Lahore. Ticket prices will stay the same to ensure affordable travel for the general public.
A day earlier, the government increased petrol and diesel prices by Rs55 per litre, with new rates taking effect immediately. Petrol now costs Rs321.17 per litre, up from Rs266.17, while diesel prices rose from Rs280.86 to Rs336 per litre.
The government also announced that petrol and diesel prices will now be reviewed weekly. This frequent adjustment aims to align domestic fuel costs with global market trends and ongoing energy challenges.
The Minister for Petroleum confirmed that the price hikes are part of a broader strategy to address pressures in Pakistanโs energy sector. Officials said the weekly review system will allow more responsive adjustments to changing market conditions.
Despite rising fuel costs, the Orange Train fares will remain steady, ensuring commuters can continue to use affordable, reliable transport. The metro system plays a crucial role in reducing traffic congestion and supporting daily commuting for thousands of people.
City residents welcomed the announcement, saying it will ease the financial burden caused by rising petrol and diesel prices. The Punjab Masstransit Authority emphasized that keeping Orange Train fares stable is part of its commitment to public service.
