More than 66,000 Pakistani workers travelled abroad for employment during July and August, according to official data.

The Bureau of Immigration reported that 66,815 people left Pakistan for overseas jobs during the two-month period.

The figures show that international labour markets remain an important source of employment for workers from Pakistan.

However, overseas employment departures declined significantly in August compared with the previous month.

Overseas Employment Drops in August

According to official figures, 39,159 Pakistanis travelled abroad for employment during July.

The number dropped to 27,656 workers in August. This represents a month-on-month decrease of 11,503 overseas employment departures.

Despite the decline, thousands of workers continued to find employment opportunities outside Pakistan.

The Bureau of Immigration said Pakistani workers continued accessing jobs across international labour markets. The latest numbers reflect employment-related departures rather than all forms of international travel.

Interest-Free Loans Support Local Employment

Alongside overseas employment, government-backed financing continued to support income-generating activities within Pakistan.

The Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund provided 5,169 interest-free loans during August.

These loans were worth a combined Rs381 million. The financing aims to support small businesses, self-employment and greater financial inclusion.

Eligible people can use the funds for activities designed to generate income. According to the report, total interest-free loan disbursements have reached Rs127 billion since 2019.

The financing programme provides another option for people seeking to establish livelihoods within the country.

Government Expands Financing Opportunities

The government is also working to improve access to housing and agricultural financing.

These measures form part of broader efforts to support livelihoods and economic activity. Agricultural financing can help farmers invest in equipment, crops and other productive activities.

Housing financing can also support construction and related sectors while improving access to homes. The latest figures show two different employment and income trends in Pakistan.

On one side, thousands of people continue to pursue job opportunities in overseas markets.

On the other, interest-free loans are supporting businesses and self-employment within the country.

More than 66,000 people securing overseas employment within two months shows the continuing role of foreign labour markets.

At the same time, the August decline indicates that monthly overseas employment departures can vary significantly.

The data also highlights efforts to create income opportunities for Pakistani workers and entrepreneurs at home.
