PAF F-16s Intercept and Destroy Two Kamikaze Drones Over Islamabad

Pakistan’s capital experienced a major security scare after two suspected suicide drones were detected in the airspace above Islamabad. Quick action by PAF F-16s prevented a potentially dangerous situation.

According to initial reports, the drones were spotted moving toward sensitive locations near Hamza Camp and Sector I-8. These areas are considered important security zones in the federal capital.

Once the threat was detected, the Pakistan Air Force immediately responded. PAF F-16s were scrambled into the air within minutes to intercept the drones. The fighter jets successfully tracked the aerial objects and destroyed them before they could reach their targets.

Officials said the PAF F-16s used their onboard M61A1 Vulcan cannons during the operation. Both drones were shot down in the air, preventing what authorities described as a possible major security incident.

Residents of Islamabad reported hearing loud fighter jet activity during the operation. Several eyewitnesses said they saw military aircraft flying at low altitude across the city as the situation unfolded.

Images that appeared online after the interception showed what looked like drone engine parts. Some observers suggested the equipment resembled engines used in loitering munition drones often associated with militant groups.

However, authorities have not confirmed the exact type of drones used in the incident. Officials are also investigating who may have launched the aerial devices.

Some early speculation pointed toward the possible involvement of Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Security officials, however, have not confirmed this claim and say the investigation is still ongoing.

The drone incident triggered immediate security measures across Islamabad. Flights at Islamabad International Airport were temporarily suspended to ensure aviation safety during the operation.

Meanwhile, PAF F-16s continued patrol flights over the capital to monitor the airspace and ensure no additional threats were present. Security forces were also deployed at several key locations across the city.

Authorities said there were no reports of casualties or property damage. The drones were destroyed before they could reach any populated areas or sensitive installations.

Investigators are now trying to determine the origin of the drones. Officials are examining whether the devices were launched from inside Pakistan or from areas near the Afghan border.

Security experts say the quick response by PAF F-16s played a critical role in preventing a possible attack. The successful interception also highlights the importance of constant monitoring of the country’s airspace.
