Pakistan, Afghanistan Pledge to Strengthen Trade Ties

Both Pakistan and Afghanistan have reaffirmed their commitment to fostering trade relations and addressing the difficulties they now face.

Saturday’s high-level formal discussion on bilateral trade between Pakistan and Afghanistan was co-chaired by the federal minister of commerce, Syed Naveed Qamar, and his Afghan counterpart, Haji Nooruddin Azizi.

Senior officials from the Ministries of Commerce, Customs, Transport, and Finance on both sides also attended the conference.

A number of significant topics, including customs cooperation, border management, bilateral trade, tariff reduction, and concerns relating to the livestock and pharmaceutical industries, were thoroughly discussed.

The ministers emphasised the necessity of effective border management and easy customs procedures to promote commerce and strengthen economic cooperation. They emphasised the necessity of streamlining and simplifying trade processes in order to eliminate bottlenecks and create an atmosphere that is favourable for bilateral commerce.

The attendees discussed ways to increase trade volumes and broaden the scope of the items that are traded between Pakistan and Afghanistan. The ministers agreed that it was crucial to expand trade beyond conventional goods and look into new opportunities for economic cooperation. Additionally, discussions on enhancing connectivity and infrastructure to enable trade flows were held.

The officials emphasised the potential advantages of investment in logistics and transportation infrastructure, which would support higher trade and economic expansion.

Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to addressing any issues obstructing bilateral commerce and vowed to cooperate to improve the trading environment.
