ISLAMABAD β The government of Pakistan is reportedly considering sending personnel from the Pakistan Army to join the International Stability Force (ISF) in Gaza, as consultations between the civilian and military leadership reach their final stage. The move signals a strong likelihood of Pakistanβs participation in the multinational peacekeeping mission.
The proposed International Stability Force will be a multinational coalition mainly composed of Muslim-majority nations. Its primary objectives include maintaining internal security in Gaza, disarming militant groups like Hamas, protecting border crossings, and facilitating humanitarian assistance and reconstruction efforts under the interim Palestinian Authority.
According to government sources, discussions between Islamabadβs top civilian officials and the Pakistan Army are nearing completion, with both sides favoring active involvement in the peace initiative.
While the United States will not send troops to Gaza, Washington is playing a key role in coordinating the peace plan. It has approached countries such as Indonesia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Qatar, Turkey, and Azerbaijan to contribute forces. However, Turkeyβs potential inclusion has drawn objections from Israeli authorities, who have expressed firm opposition to any Turkish military presence in Gaza.
The development comes as Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir undertakes an official visit to Egypt and Jordan. His meetings with regional leaders are focused on stabilizing the region after the ceasefire and discussing the implementation of the U.S.-mediated Gaza Peace Agreement.
With a long history of successful participation in UN peacekeeping operationsβdeploying over 200,000 troops across more than 40 global missionsβPakistan has the expertise and credibility to play a significant role in the ISF.
