LAHORE โ Pakistan has officially started testing 5G Internet in select areas, offering early speeds between 150 and 200 Mbps. Experts say telecom companies are limiting speeds initially to ensure network stability.
Users with 5G-compatible devices can now experience the service in major Lahore locations, including Garden Town, Gulberg Main Market, Lahore Airport, Defence Club DHA, Hafeez Centre, and Aiwan-e-Iqbal. Other key areas include PIC Hospital, MM Alam Road, Fortress Stadium, LCCI, Johar Town, and Model Town Link Road.
Telecom analysts note that as testing progresses, 5G Internet speeds are likely to increase, and coverage will expand to additional regions. Users are encouraged to try the new network to experience faster download and upload rates, lower latency, and enhanced mobile connectivity.
IT Minister Shaza Fatima confirmed that the government is also boosting 4G services and conducting 5G pilot projects in major cities. With 480 MHz of newly released spectrum, Pakistanโs network capacity has tripled, enabling faster and more reliable mobile internet.
Leading telecom companies Jazz, Ufone, and Zong are actively testing next-generation networks, preparing for a broader rollout. Authorities say the introduction of 5G Internet will transform sectors such as education, healthcare, and e-commerce by supporting AI, IoT, and smart city applications.
In addition, Pakistan is promoting digital innovation through an AI Council, policies to make smartphones affordable via installments, and local mobile manufacturing initiatives. Three new submarine cables have also landed, boosting internet connectivity nationwide. The recent spectrum auction raised $510 million, marking a significant step in the countryโs digital revolution.
