Pakistan Customs Foils Rs14 Crore Smuggling Bid at Karachi Port

Pakistan Customs on Friday intercepted a major smuggling attempt involving goods worth Rs14 crore at Karachi’s Qasim International Container Terminal (QICT), exposing a misuse of the Export Facilitation Scheme (EFS).

Deputy Collector Raza Naqvi confirmed that the 40-foot container, imported from Malaysia and cleared through the Green Channel, was falsely declared as aluminium foil scrap. However, a detailed examination revealed the presence of high-value items such as medical equipment, e-cigarettes, vape flavours, and lithium batteries.

Customs officials, acting on a tip-off, seized the container shortly after it exited the terminal. The declared weight of 81,950 kilograms was found to be grossly misleading and in clear violation of EFS regulations.

The consignment was traced to M/s Domestic Industries, and a case has been registered against the importer. Authorities have confiscated the goods, and further investigations are underway.
