Pakistan Football Hits New Low in FIFA Rankings After Myanmar Defeat

Pakistan’s men’s national football team has dropped three more places to 201st in the latest FIFA World Rankings, following a disheartening loss to Myanmar in the Asian Cup qualifiers. This marks one of the lowest positions in the country’s football history, placing Pakistan near the bottom of the 211 FIFA member nations.

The fall reflects the team’s ongoing winless streak and persistent challenges, both on and off the pitch. Since its return to international competition after years of administrative setbacks, Pakistan has managed just one competitive win—against Cambodia—and has since lost eight matches in a row under current head coach Stephen Constantine.

The team now ranks the lowest in South Asia, behind Sri Lanka (196), Bhutan (186), Bangladesh (184), and even regional leader India, which holds 133rd place. Sri Lanka was the only South Asian team to gain ground in the latest update, moving up four spots.

Globally, the top five positions remain occupied by football giants Germany, Brazil, Belgium, Portugal, and Argentina. Within Asia, Australia is the highest-ranked at 36th, while South Korea continues to demonstrate regional strength at 57th.

With no fixtures scheduled until October, the Pakistan Football Federation faces growing pressure to reassess its strategy and halt the sport’s decline in the country.
