Pakistan has started Gas load management for domestic consumers as uncertainty continues over LNG supplies from Qatar.

Officials said households are now receiving Gas mainly during important cooking hours. Round-the-clock supply is currently not available in many areas.

Under the present schedule, Gas is supplied for about three hours in the morning. Morning supply is available from 6am to 9am. Another three-hour window is provided from 12pm to 3pm.

The final daily supply period runs from 6pm to 9pm. These timings cover breakfast, lunch, and dinner hours.

Officials said the restrictions are linked to limited Gas availability and pressure from other sectors.

The power sector also depends on imported RLNG for electricity generation. This creates additional demand on the available supply.

Pakistan’s current supply pressure is linked to disruption in Qatar’s LNG chain. Regional tensions have affected energy infrastructure and transport routes used for Qatari shipments.

The Strait of Hormuz remains a key route for LNG cargoes from Qatar. Pakistan received two Qatari LNG cargoes during September despite the disruption.

One shipment arrived on September 10. Another cargo reached Pakistan on September 23. Officials said the additional cargoes provided some temporary relief.

However, the two shipments were not enough to fully remove wider supply shortages. The latest situation follows a sharp reduction in September RLNG prices announced by OGRA.

For SNGPL consumers, RLNG prices fell by about 20.13 percent.

The new price stood at around $15.196 per mmBtu. For SSGC consumers, the price dropped by 21.57 percent.

The revised rate stood at about $14.223 per mmBtu. Officials said the lower prices were linked to cheaper LNG cargoes received from Qatar.

However, lower prices did not solve the broader issue of supply availability. Pakistan had earlier turned to the spot market after disruption in Qatari shipments.

The government had warned that lower RLNG supplies could affect electricity generation. In September, officials also acknowledged that transport difficulties affected the power sector.

Reduced RLNG availability contributed to lower electricity generation and power load management.

For households, the most visible impact is the new time-based Gas supply schedule. Consumers now have to plan cooking around the announced morning, afternoon, and evening windows.

If LNG disruptions continue, domestic consumers may face similar restrictions in the coming months.
