Pakistan has received its largest-ever US crude oil shipment, marking a historic moment for the country’s energy sector. The vessel MT Pegasus, carrying one million barrels of West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude, is set to berth today at Cnergyico’s offshore oil terminal in Balochistan.
This milestone marks the first-ever commercial import of US crude oil into Pakistan under the new bilateral trade framework between Islamabad and Washington. Energy industry officials have hailed the development as a significant step toward expanding and diversifying Pakistan’s fuel supply chain.
According to Cnergyico, the tanker departed from Houston on September 14 and is now approaching its final docking point at the company’s Single Point Mooring (SPM) terminal. The import of US crude oil not only strengthens trade ties between Pakistan and the United States but also enhances the country’s refining efficiency and operational flexibility.
Cnergyico previously achieved a national record in 2017 by handling the largest crude oil vessel ever received in Pakistan. The company has confirmed plans to import a second US crude shipment in mid-November, followed by a third consignment in 2026.
Officials say this initiative will help reduce Pakistan’s reliance on Middle Eastern oil, improve refining margins, and boost bilateral trade with the US. By integrating American oil supplies into its system, Pakistan is taking a crucial step toward long-term energy diversification and stability.
A Cnergyico spokesperson said the arrival of US crude oil “marks a new chapter in Pakistan-US commercial relations,” adding that this partnership could pave the way for further cooperation in energy and trade sectors.
With the arrival of MT Pegasus, Pakistan has officially entered a new era of international energy collaboration, reinforcing its commitment to ensuring a secure and balanced oil supply.
