PM Shehbaz Arrives in US As Pakistan Joins Global Gaza Reconstruction Effort

Pakistan has formally joined the international Gaza Reconstruction Effort during a high-level Board of Peace meeting in the United States.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in the US on Thursday to participate in the initiative, which aims to rebuild Gaza and strengthen regional stability. Pakistanโ€™s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar also attended the meeting.

The Board of Peace, chaired by former President Donald Trump, brings together delegations from over 20 countries. Its mandate includes approving reconstruction plans, deploying peacekeeping forces, and coordinating international aid.

Pakistan confirmed that its participation in the Gaza Reconstruction Effort will be strictly humanitarian. Officials clarified that Pakistani troops will contribute only to peacekeeping and logistical support. They will not engage in any operations to disarm local factions.

President Trump is expected to unveil a multi-billion-dollar Gaza Reconstruction Effort plan. The program will include funding for infrastructure, housing, hospitals, and education facilities, alongside proposals for a UN-authorized stabilization force.

Pakistanโ€™s official statement emphasized its support for Palestinian welfare. The country aims to provide humanitarian assistance, ensure a sustainable ceasefire, and support Palestinian self-determination within pre-1967 borders. Al-Quds Al-Sharif is reaffirmed as the capital of a future sovereign state.

The Gaza Reconstruction Effort has drawn international attention for its ambitious scope. It seeks to rebuild the war-torn region while addressing broader geopolitical challenges. Membership of the Board of Peace is limited to three years unless nations contribute at least $1 billion, granting permanent status.

Pakistanโ€™s participation signals its commitment to global humanitarian initiatives while carefully navigating regional sensitivities. The country remains focused on providing support without escalating military involvement.

Countries invited include China, India, Russia, Ukraine, Canada, Egypt, and Argentina. France declined to join the board. The initiative will require formal acceptance from at least three nations to come fully into force.

The Gaza Reconstruction Effort highlights Pakistanโ€™s role in international diplomacy, emphasizing humanitarian aid, peacekeeping, and constructive engagement in global conflict resolution.
