Pakistan has carried out retaliatory strikes against 10 locations in Afghanistan. Information Minister Attaullah Tarar announced the action on Thursday.
The strikes followed the reported entry of eight drones into Pakistani airspace from Afghanistan. Pakistani security sources said the drones were intercepted on Wednesday.
Tarar said Pakistan’s air defence systems detected and tracked the drones. He said all eight were neutralised before reaching their intended targets.
According to security sources, four drones were brought down near the Torkham border. Four others were intercepted near Kohat.
In a statement posted on X, Tarar condemned the reported drone incursion. He described it as a violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The minister said Pakistan acted under its claimed right to self-defence. He said the country then launched precision aerial and drone strikes against 10 locations.
Tarar said the targeted sites were allegedly used to launch and store drones. He described the retaliatory strikes as deliberate and carefully limited.
He said the strikes were also calibrated and proportionate. According to Tarar, they focused only on identified military objectives.
The minister linked the targets directly to the attempted drone attacks against Pakistan. He did not provide further details about casualties from the strikes.
Pakistan Raises Concerns Over Afghan Territory
Tarar said Pakistan had repeatedly raised concerns with the Afghan Taliban authorities. He said those concerns involved alleged militant sanctuaries and support networks in Afghanistan.
According to the minister, Pakistan had sought concrete action against groups operating from Afghan territory.
He said the situation instead escalated following the reported drone operations. Tarar urged the Afghan Taliban to stop hostile activities against Pakistan.
He also called for effective and verifiable action against militant groups. He said Afghan territory should not be used for attacks against Pakistan.
Pakistan has previously accused groups based in Afghanistan of supporting cross-border attacks. Afghan authorities have rejected such accusations.
Pakistan Says It Does Not Seek Escalation
Tarar said Pakistan does not want further escalation in the region. He said Islamabad remains committed to dialogue and regional peace.
However, he said this position should not be viewed as unlimited tolerance. He stressed that Pakistan would protect its territory and citizens.
The minister also warned that further provocative actions would receive a firm response. His remarks came amid rising tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
The latest retaliatory strikes add to a series of recent cross-border security incidents. Relations between Islamabad and Kabul have faced growing tensions over militant activity and border attacks.
Pakistan’s government has maintained that Afghan territory must not be used for hostile operations. It has also called for sustained action against groups it says operate from Afghanistan.
The latest developments could further increase pressure on both sides to address security concerns through diplomatic channels.
