Pakistan’s electricity shortfall has crossed 4,000 megawatts, increasing concerns about longer power outages nationwide. Several power plants have gone offline, while hydropower generation has also declined.
Sources in the National Transmission and Despatch Company said the nationwide shortfall has exceeded 4,000 MW. The growing gap between electricity demand and supply is affecting both urban and rural areas.
Consumers are currently experiencing three to four hours of Loadshedding in different parts of the country. However, outages could increase if electricity generation remains low.
Power Plants Go Offline
The latest power shortage has been linked to multiple factors affecting electricity generation.
Several power plants have reportedly been taken offline. At the same time, hydropower production has declined.
Lower electricity generation has increased pressure on the national power system. This has resulted in scheduled and forced outages across different regions.
Sources have warned that severe Loadshedding could continue for the next several days.
The situation could remain challenging until electricity generation improves and the shortfall begins to decline.
LESCO Shortfall Crosses 1,500 MW
The Lahore Electric Supply Company region is also facing a significant electricity shortage.
According to LESCO sources, its power shortfall has crossed 1,500 MW. The shortage has resulted in frequent outages across areas supplied by the company.
Sources said lower diesel and gas-based generation contributed to the shortfall. Reduced hydropower production has further affected electricity availability.
The LESCO region is reportedly facing forced outages of one hour after every hour.
This means consumers in affected areas could experience repeated electricity interruptions throughout the day.
Loadshedding Could Worsen in Coming Days
The latest electricity shortage has raised concerns about longer outages across Pakistan.
Cities and rural areas are already facing three to four hours of power cuts. The duration may vary depending on electricity supply and local conditions.
Power sector sources have warned that the situation could remain difficult for several days.
If generation remains below demand, Loadshedding may continue at higher levels across the country.

The electricity supply situation will depend on the restoration of offline plants and improvement in hydropower generation. Any increase in available generation could help reduce the nationwide shortfall.
